What is carpet whipping?
Carpet whipping is the specialist skill of creating an over-locked edge on a carpet to keep it from fraying. A neat band of stitches are applied to the carpet's edge to strengthen and decorate it. The width of these stitches may vary slightly from one service to the next but is typically around 15 mm. You can see examples of these bands of stitches in the images below.
There are some quick and easy DIY alternatives to this process, but applying an over-locked edge is inexpensive and creates a neat, professional finish.
